The new UF Health Urgent Care Center–Eastside represents more than just another medical facility—it's the result of a true community partnership between UF Health, the City of Gainesville, and Alachua County.
Built for $3.1 million and designed through a collaboration between Superlative Architecture & Development and BxP Architects, this 9,100-square-foot center is expected to serve up to 15,000 residents annually. Beyond its eight exam rooms, x-ray facilities, and lab services, the center features something special: a community room where residents can gather for wellness classes, community meetings, and local events.
What makes this facility unique is how deeply the community shaped its creation. For a full year before construction began, local residents shared their vision through four community workshops. Their input didn't just influence the building's design—it transformed how the center would operate. Extended hours, local artwork adorning the walls, and jobs reserved for Eastside residents all came directly from these conversations.
The building itself breaks new ground in sustainable design. It's one of the area's first structures to use sustainable, cross-laminated timber (CLT) decking in its distinctive sloping roof. This innovative approach makes the center stand out not just as a medical facility, but as a symbol of progress for the entire community.
