Sarasota High School is an exemplar of the Sarasota School of Architecture. Paul Rudolph’s folding concrete planes were inspired by the practical spaces of Le Corbusier’s work in India while horizontal plates and piers give classrooms natural ventilation. The design received the Award of Merit from the American Institute of Architects’ Honor Award Program. Rudolph’s design shows his exploration of massing and grand appearance over airy, fine materials.
