Dune Lakes Elementary School takes cues from the surrounding communities to bring a light-filled learning experience to Walton County. The flexible facility emphasizes “anytime learning,” the architect says, with an environment that contributes to students’ health, well-being and success.
Each classroom has a view to the outdoors. Activity zones are provided where the light monitors bring in natural daylight. Stepped seating, teaching walls and interactive wall elements provide additional learning areas.
The use of architectural elements such as towers, monitors and cupolas tie the school to the local architectural vernacular, the architect says, reinforcing the civic presence of the school.
