Architect Martin Hampton, an associate of Addison Mizner, designed and built The Colony Hotel in 1926. The 70-room Colony Hotel & Cabana Club dates back to when Prohibition prohibited the inclusion of a bar. Today’s hotel still includes the original 1926 elevator along with the original iron chandeliers and candelabras, arched French doors, a telephone switchboard and original 1920s handwoven wicker furniture. The Colony Hotel & Cabana Club features Florida Mediterranean architecture with three yellow stories topped by twin domed towers. In 1949, the Cabana Club was added, which gives guests easy beach access and a pool. Guest room windows are shaded with red and yellow awnings.
