This two-story 38,000 sf LEED Silver recreation building sits within an 18-acre recreation park and provides the City with a vibrant social and active space that fosters community development while respecting the boundaries of the residential communities that surround the site. The complex’s multiple components were designed as part of an active and passive strategy to take advantage of one of the site’s most challenging conditions – a park site divided into two unequal areas by a city street. To address this the recreation building includes a covered pedestrian bridge which extends above the busy city avenue and provides a safe passage between the two parcels. This bridge doubles as a gateway that defines the northern boundary of the city and weaves the park and city together into a welcoming gesture accentuated by the lively activities of the complex.
