Watercolor Fire Station

Watercolor Fire Station

Santa Rosa Beach

Built in 2004.

Designed by DAG Architects.

"Built in a southern vernacular style with wide porches, ample overhanging metal hip-gable roofing, and a central tower, this fire station is both a state-of-the-art facility with a three-bay fire engine garage and a civic beacon in the community. The station’s personnel not only field fire response calls, but also respond to the emergency and beach rescue needs of this resort area. The station is part of a commercial area just north of the beach, and its site is bordered by a state park, a rural highway, and a shopping center’s parking lot. It is part of a coastal New Urbanism community and so it's style fits well into the established vernacular of the area. The building’s plan is centered on the axis of the shopping center’s parking aisle, accentuated by a wide public entry porch and a watch tower. A watch tower provides a civic beacon and relates historically to the forestry towers that once populated the neighboring state forest."
